I think that right now we live in a time in which more and more people are feeling helpless and hopeless. The economy, an oil leak that threatens the environment, wars and political unrest… it is hard to be fully conscious and not have fears and doubts about the world, and a vague sense that things are spinning out of control. Individuals facing a medical diagnosis, and the additional uncertainty and daily challenges, have even more reason to have fears about the future. Intense feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can lead to depression. I have added a new article in my Resources section called ‘Facing Depression’ that has some helpful advice. The bottom line: you aren’t alone in this. Help is available. Just reach out.
